Coon Named State Girls Wrestling Coach of the Year
Fowlerville Community Schools is pleased to announce that the Michigan High School Coaches Association (MHSCA) has named Dan Coon, State Girls Wrestling Coach of the Year.
Mr. Coon will be presented with his award during the MHSCA State Awards at the Great Hall Banquet & Convention Center in Midland on November 17, 2024.
According to a release by MHSCA, the selection and nomination for these awards comes from the coach’s constituent sport association and through the Michigan High School Coaches Association. This award reflects positively on the school and community and selections have been based on the performance of their program over the years and/or their contribution to the sport, school and community.
The MHSCA is a 69-year old association with nearly 25,000 members, serving athletic administrators, and all levels of coaches in numerous high schools and junior high/middle schools throughout the stat of Michigan. The MSHCA works to promote the educational value of athletics and the role of athletic administrators and coaches. MHSCA also noted they are proud to spotlight Mr. Coon as a person whose work and values best mirror those of the association.
Dan Coon was named to the MHSCA Hall of Fame in 2020. He has coached in Alma, Petoskey, Muskegon, Cheboygan, Webberville and Fowlerville. Throughout his career he has received numerous recognitions and awards. He was named Michigan Wrestling Association (MWA) Regional Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1998, State Coach of the Year in 1994, and in 2019 was inducted into the Michigan Wrestling Association Hall of Fame.

Coach Coon not only elevates the performance of our team but also inspires young women to pursue their passions with confidence. We are proud to have him as part of our athletic family,” Finney also noted.
