Michigan School Meals
Fowlerville Community Schoolsis excited to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students starting this new school year thanks to the Michigan Healthy School Meals Program! Even though meals will be provided for free, it's important for families to continue sharing household income information in order for our schools to receive full access to federal and state funding for educational programs that our students are entitled to.
Federal guidelines are very clear that students may only receive a free or reduced price for a complete meal. Students choosing partial meals or snacks will be charged full price. Your child's school FNS Manager will be happy to assist you or your family with questions regarding a complete meal.
Student Account Information
Upon enrollment, all students are assigned a cafeteria account. This is a debit account. Parents send in payment by check payable to Food and Nutrition Services which is deposited in the student's account. When a student makes any cafeteria purchase, the amount is automatically deducted from the account.
If you have more than one student in the district, all their account deposits can now be made with one check. Be sure to indicate the amounts to be deposited and the account numbers. Our account system provides complete anonymity to students eligible for free and reduced price meals. A student's paying status is coded in their account and the appropriate price is automatically deducted.
Food and Nutrition Services Cafeteria Account Policies
Breakfast and Lunch are served at all schools in this district. Students who bring a lunch from home can purchase milk or other beverage separately. Snacks are sold as a la carte items at all schools except Smith Elementary. Free and Reduced price meals are available to families whose income meets federal guidelines.
Students who were eligible for free and reduced priced meals at the end of the prior school year will automatically be eligible for the same benefits for the first 30 days of the new school year. A new application must be received and approved by October 11 for families to continue receiving uninterrupted benefits.
Meal sales are computerized, and a debit system is used for cafeteria purchases. Every student has a debit account. Parents make deposits and each time their child makes a purchase, the amount is automatically debited from their account. Students scan their debit card or enter their account number on a keypad and our system recognizes whether a student is full price, free or reduced and charges accordingly. This system is completely confidentialand provides total anonymity to free and reduced price students. Please keep in mind, it is meant to be a debit, not credit, system.
