New Recreation Director and Alverson Performing Arts Center Manager Announced
Fowlerville Community Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Zack Douglass as the new Recreation Director and Jillian Martin as the Alverson Performing Arts Center Manager. Contracts for both positions were approved by the Board of Education at last night’s meeting.
Mr. Douglass is very familiar with the Fowlerville community, as a graduate of Fowlerville High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Science from Michigan State University with specializations in health promotion, athletic administration, coaching and leadership fitness. He has extensive experience in the areas of coaching, officiating and education. He has served as a positions coach with the Fowlerville High School football team and coached youth football and basketball. In addition, he has 15 years of experience as a MHSAA official for baseball and basketball.
In his new role, Mr. Douglass will spearhead recreational activities through a cooperative agreement between Fowlerville Community Schools, the Village of Fowlerville, and the townships of Iosco, Cohoctah, Conway and Handy. This position is designed to enrich the community through a range of youth recreational activities (1st through 8th grades), under the administrative oversight of Fowlerville Community Schools. The Director’s efforts are further supported and guided by the advice of the Community Recreation Advisory Board ensuring a community-focused approach to youth recreation.
“My youth, adult and professional life have all been heavily influenced by my athletic and extracurricular experiences throughout my childhood. Understanding the impact that youth athletics and recreation activities can have on individuals, I am very excited to have this opportunity,” notes Zack Douglass. “It is a sincere honor to be in a position where I am afforded the opportunity to help drive programs that will have such a significant influence on youth in our community,” Douglass also noted.
Ms. Martin earned her undergraduate degree in Theatre with a performance emphasis from the University of Michigan – Flint. She went on to earn a master’s of fine arts degree in Applied Drama and Theatre for the Young from Eastern Michigan University. She has served as the Facilitator/Director at Encore Youth Theatre in Hartland, Michigan for summer camps and the musical theatre program. In addition, she has served as a graduate teaching assistant at Eastern Michigan University in the Drama as Foundation of Human Experience class.
In her new role, she will provide leadership and assume responsibility for the direction, coordination, and implementation of all activities and events at the Alverson Center for Performing Arts, Junior High School auditorium and auxiliary facilities. She will be responsible for planning and scheduling events/performances and identifying the maintenance needs of the facility. In addition, she will supervise and train the student Technical Theatre Club members and any additional support staff in the use of the Alverson Center’s equipment and tools.
